What experience do you have?

If you have some 'MS Abcess' or 'SQL Server' experience, but none with Oracle, I would probably start with something like O'Reilly's (http://oracle.oreilly.com/) book "Oracle Essentials: Oracle9i, Oracle8i & Oracle8 ".

If you are just starting with databases, I'd recommend some of the "Oracle 101" books from Oracle Press at http://www.oraclepress.com. However, I'd always suggest, especially for a newcomer, look over the title and description and then post a question to the group asking for feedback on the book.
