Definitely possible. There are various registry settings like TCPkeepalive, which determine when the connection is considered 'dead'.

ORA-3113 has also literally 1000s of course. You would need to conduct a sqlnet trace from both client and server side to check what is really going on.
trace_level_client = 16
in sqlnet.ora on the client
trace_level_server = 16
on the sqlnet.ora on the server
