How to measure sort time

Hi,

How to measure the time of sorting in Oracle 8.1.6 and higher?

My current approach with SQLPlus is to "set timing on", and throw some select statement with order by clause against the serwer, but considering the output it seems that the time spent on spitting the data on the console is also taken into the summary timings.

What is the preferred way to measure only the sorting time? Are there some more advanced approaches/tools?

Thank you for your time.
