yes, commit (and when DBWR have to clean buffers for a checkpoint, ...)
causes LGWR to write log buffers to the redo logs.
log_checkpoint_interval indicates the number of redo blocks the DB has to
fill before a checkpoint occurs;
I think that a very large value (it should be larger than your larger redo
log) doesn't matter, as the log switch then
only occur when redo logs are full.
