It's not just the infinitesimal amount of time, it's the three buffer accesses and cache buffers chains latch acquisitions, too.

( Of course, it does reduce your buffer cache hit ratio - but you'll just have to put up with that in the interests of improved efficiency ;) ( NB irony (-- which is nothing like steely or goldy))
