Absolutely. People seem to assume that tnsping is pinging the instance. Not so. It is pinging the listener. You can successfully tnsping as long as the instance is registered with the listener. If you are depending on automatic registration, then yes, you need to have a running instance. But if you list the instances in the listener's sid_list, you can tnsping these without actully haveing a database. Try it and see for yourself. Received on Thu Mar 06 2003 - 07:30:09 CST
