I am tring to connect to the instance with root user, I know I dont have to do this via root, but I am just doing a test. I am able to connect to the instance successfully via other regular users if only they are added into "dba" group.

I compared all the environment variables of root user with others, they are the same. and with root, I can log on to system under root. That proved all the necessary environment setting is correct.

It seems that the root user is restricted by Oracle.

P.S I am working with Oracle 8.1.7 on Solaris 8 2/02.
