Morning Niall,

in 817 there is an overloaded version of FOPEN which allows you to specify a maximum linesize. I'm not sure if it was introduced in 815, 816 or 817 as I only have the 817 version here (and I've used it !). Otherwise, the maximum is defined as '1023 bytes on most systems'. In 8.0 this was 1022 bytes - so 8i gained an extra byte somewhere :o)

Cheers,
Norman.

IIRC that limit is the 9i limit and is,as you say reasonable. I believe that
in 8i the limit was closer to 1k. Also as of 9i you can specify your linesize in you call to FOPEN.
