ONE course for 12K ... wow! I need to switch to training :)

I had also moved away from mainframes many years ago, but had the luxury of taking several good instructor led courses.

If you don't have the luxury of spending some money on instructor led course, I am wondering if you should look at the online self-paced CDs . I haven't used these, but seems like a good idea for anyone short of cash or time for traveling to training.

Sybase sold their sole to the M$ guys.

M$ will always be playing catch-up to Oracle for core database features and Oracle will always be playing catch-up to the M$ user-interfaces.

Just my opinion... but your experience on mainframes will always be helpful. I am constantly amazed how the same old problems always come up and sometimes the old solutions can be reapplied (in general - not in details). It took us about 10 years to get a decent tape robotic system that I took for granted on mainframes. Also, we are still trying to find a decent change control process that also I took for granted with mainframe apps. This might be just our company, but that is my experience.
