I have no objections to using 1-3 instances but we run several different projects using different software (bea, SAP, IBM, docu) which usually require different types of dbs whether its version conflicts (due to client specs) or chars set... or just that the project needs to start and stop and do wacky stuff to the instance. I didn't want to have all projects go down if one was doing some funky stuff. Along with deployment process of the scheme, code.. They always a want a dev and qa instance..

I'm open for better ways of doing this type of setup?

Can anyone pass along a good book or some sites that can help me how to maintain this type of setup, along with how to figure out the proper values for memory pools, etc...

Thanks for all the support!!
