I would recommend reading the redbooks from ibm on ibm.com/redbooks - and
especially the DB2 UDB V7.1 Performance Tuning Guide. Yes I know it sounds
weird
but this read book contains some *very* good info on tuning IBM AIX for
databases - wether
it be DB2 or Oracle ... it also explains some cool SSA settings (if you're
using SSA ofcourse)
and JFS settings...
Anyhow - good luck with AIX 5L - I've received 2 new pSeries servers which
are going to be my new test systems (using HACMP of course :-) ) using AIX
5L ! Hopefully
there won't be too much troubles for Oracle on 5L !
Oh - things you should always take a closer look at :
- JFS settings (npbi, jfs log placement)
- lower FS cache if you have large physical mem (the DB should do the
caching) - use vmtune
- bump up your OS async I/O servers/requests - but don't overshoot ... about
10MB each !
