God knows what I was thinking of!!!!! I think I meant to say "smaller backups mean shorter backups". And then I got confused, and my fingers went their merry way whilst the brain the size of a potatoe focused on the eggs and bacon breakfast.
Come on, Nuno: it *was* 6.00am, and I was using Linux at the time!

Absolutely. Legato is purely a 'Media Management Layer', required because RMAN doesn't have the smarts to backup to a tape drive direct. So if there's no tape drive, RMAN can work on its own.
Me? I've never gotten Legato to work. Ever. And I spent ages trying it. Pathetic, I know, but whaddya expect from a Windows user?!
So, what backup strategy do I use for my 400GB database at home? RMAN to disk, Backup Exec (agentless) to tape. Works a treat. And the Seagate shares are doing nicely, thankyou very much!!
Besides, it's quicker to restore from a backup on disk.
At least with the sort of SCSI DAT drives I'm using.

Nah. Leave well alone unless you're a Linux/Unix nerd.... Oh. OK. Feel free to install, but feel free to ignore, too!
