can't install oracle on linux

oracle9i, oracle8i
mandrake8.1, kde
sun jdk1.4.1, blackdown jdk1.1.8

followed the instructions
(set env var)
(create user,group)

startx
./runInstaller

the welcome screen appeared, but no response when clicked next or cancel. have to quit.
