for what its worth I could not get the dbca to run properly on 8i/SuSE, so I just created manual create database scripts and created my db that way with no problems.

Can you just use the dbca to create your scripts then run them one at a time from an xterm?, they should go ok, and if they dont at least you'll be able to see where they fail.

I just did a 9i install on RH 7.2, but it's a spare-time project and i havent created a database on it yet, but when I do I'll likely just use dbca to write the scripts or just write my own.
