Now *that's* a description I can live with ;-)

However, it does leave me with a bit of a problem. What do I call the _collection_ of inter-compatible systems with names ending in (i|u)x ?

Well no, because it was meant as a kind of "ha ha only serious" test to find out if someone was qualified to answer. While unix is a great system, for some reason I don't think you'd be happy if I called you a unix variant. ;-)
