From what others have said, I must be missing something...

You can certainly do it, provided you connect with SQL*Net and have the LISTENER.ORA defined so that it actually starts the 804 server for your connection (it'll be the default if you're using an 804 listener). That sure works here on VMS, and that kind of things are usually platform independant.

If you connect bequeath, then yes, you may have some problems, but it may work well up to a certain point.
