This sort of thing highlights several useful lessons.

  1. All sorts of things are version specific You could also note that although the 9i statspack scripts have the same names as the 8.1.7 ones they are different scripts.
  2. Not everything you read in a book (or here on the newsgroups or at a conference) will be valid (I'm assuming the book does actually tell you to run the scripts as SYS and it isn't a misreading.)
