One would have to examine the actual setup to measure performance. Not knowing what your architecture would look like, performance may not be an issue if you have BIG ASS BOXes.
One item that pops right out with having 500,000 tables is a fairly sizeable data dictionary. Depending on what you are planning to do with the db, this could influence performance.
