Hi Chucky,
Not only can you not perform a hot backup (Oracle won't let you), not only will RMAN ignore them, but Oracle won't even allow you to recover them (Oracle simply "pretends" the files or tablespaces are not there).
Attempting to backup temp files is a pointless exercise.
