Are you running the ERP as well as Oracle in the same box? If so, check out for paging. Use the task manager.

Yes, many.

More than likely yes. The cost-based optimizer in 8.0.5 is deranged, and I'm being very polite in describing it!

In many places that have upgraded, I've seen an immediate pick-up of appropriate indexes when going from 8.0.5 to 8.1.7.

Make sure you go to 8.1.7.3 or later.
8.1.7.0 will most likely cause you serious problems.

Yes. But if you are CPU limited, better make sure that it is indeed Oracle that is chewing up this CPU? Once again, use task manager to find out, processes section.
