blob filenames?

I received a dump of a database that has a blob field. I used a program that exports the binary data and saves it as tablename.# where # is an increasing number per file. I have no idea what the original filenames are or even what extension these files are. Is this information normally stored in the blob column itself, or would the original programmer of had to save that in a column somewhere as it isn't in the one the blob is in. Thanks.
