Which will work only if the old and new servers are the same OS, os version (maybe), manufacturer, and hardware 'endian-ness' - otherwise Oracle won't let you start up the database. There is an FAQ answer over at the Co-operative Oracle FAQ on thisd subject - try http://www.jlcom.demon.co.uk, and follow the links from there to the FAQ. HTH Cheers,
Norman.

Hi,

Try this simple method.
1. Create identical directory structure for Oracle database as in your source server.
2. Cleanly shutdown your source database. 3. Transfer all your datafiles, controlfiles, redo log files, initiallization parameter files to the identical new location. 4. startup your new database Received on Tue Dec 03 2002 - 07:09:49 CST
