This should work provided you are doing a full import at the other end. Make sure you have you patched your 8.1.7 executable's up to at least 8.1.7.3 as there were import bugs in the earlier versions. If this doesn't fix your problem then re-post with the following extra information:

What are your imp parameters?
Do you have the same disk layout on the new machine, i.e. all directories are named the same?
Did you get any errors in your import log? What platform are you doing this on, i.e. Sun Solaris, NT, HP-UX... etc?
