I remember that - almost !
We have Outlook at work, and in order to read these newsgroups, I have to do it through a Public Folder which has been set up by the NT gurus so that only approved newsgroups get through. No "alt.sex.anything.goes.especially.with.hamsters" for us (or "alt.music.david.bowie either" - phew !!)
The problem with this approach is that (a) you cannot hook up to a different news server only to the one supplied by your ISP. This bolloxes up any chance I have to connecting to Borlands NGs and posting there, because I am forbidden by the firewall - TBF as it is known - from using nntp protocols, so even Outlook Express cannot get through. You get the list of approved NGs and nothing else here!
Because our ISP sucks the news from Borland, I can read postings but cannot make any - because postings go via the ISP, and Borland only accept posts from their own servers - so to post, I have to connect directly, which I have to do from home.
At home, I read and post here and everywhere else through KNode running under Mandrake 8.2 :o)
Cheers,
Norman.
PS. Hey, I just noticed, I'm known by my first name now !!!! :o)

I made this point a while back to Norman only to be pointed to the fact
that
Exchange can supply newsgroups and if it does outlook will read them :(.
