There's really no such thing as a 'demo' version of Oracle, if you mean
'something similar to the 120-day time-limited copies of SQL Server you get
in the back of some SAMS books'.
Just go to http://technet.oracle.com and you will be able to download the complete, time-umlimited, fully-functional version of the 9i database. The only restriction on this version is that you don't use it for commercial purposes nor long-term storage of personal data (your photos, music files, address book etc etc).
Unfortunately, the download is three CDs of about 650M each, so unless you've got a broadband connection to the Internet, your better bet would be to visit the same site's shop -where you can purchase the same unlimited version as a complete set of CDs for home delivery... costs about US$40 I believe.
Because of the ready availability of the real thing in this way (isn't Oracle Corporation kind!?), I don't believe there *are* any books out there with giveaway CDs in the back -though I think I saw one developer-type book once and it contained a copy of 8.0, which is not exactly cutting edge stuff these days.
Technet's a good site for all sorts of other reasons (the other one you should visit is http://tahiti.oracle.com), too, so it's as well to make friends with it now.
Regards
HJR
