Net 8i on the client can connect to any database version from V7.3.x to V9.2.x.
When connecting to V7.3 or V8.0 make sure you don't use the new 8i syntax

..... (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = ...)) ..... but the "classic"
