Ben,

I have seen an issue (on XP, not 2000) which may or may not be the same problem.

9.2.0.1 *Client* (server and client both working perfectly on a separate XP installation) would *not* install from the Oracle 9.2.0.1 Client CD (Admin account).

My workaround was to install the Client only from the (3) *Server* CDs. This worked fine. As far as I can see, the end result should be the same; the difference seems to be that the temporary directories used during the installation process are different.
