Datafile names do NOT need to be the same on the standby database.
With nit.ora parameter DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT (V8.1.7) you can specify pares
of strings to convert a name from primary to standby database.
The OS and the version and the Oracle software version need to be the same
on the standby db.
So you can't have a standby db on Sun Solaris and the primary db on HP Unix.

| The pathnames and sizes of the datafiles must be the same. It doesn't
| matter if the underlying filesystem is raid1, raid5, un-raided, on
| different disks, of even accessed via symbolic links. The pathname
| is what matters here.
