Hello All ,

I'm trying to install Oracle 8.1.6 on RHL 7.1
, the problem is I'm unable to start the 'Oracle Universal installer'

I tried out various solution specified in this newsgroup but still i could not solve the problem .

Following message is appears once I execute './RUNINSTA '

' The Java RunTime Environment was not found at/bin/jre. Hence,

the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run.  Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version   1.1.8 or higher and try again.: No such file or directory '

  I tried the following

Alternative 1

# Installed glibc rpm & also its associated rpm's
(compat-egcs-6.2-1.1.2.14.i386.rpm ,compat-libs-6.2-3.i386.rpm)

# Installed IBM java sdk 118 ,

# Created symbolic link as $ ln -s /usr/jdk118/bin/jre
/usr/local/java

Altermative 2

# Untarred the Oracle from the CD , copied it onto hard disk & then
executed ./RUNINSTA
# Installed IBM java sdk 118 ,
# Created symbolic link as $ ln -s /bin/jre /usr/local/java

Alternative 3

When I executed '$ find / -name 'jre' -print ' following was the output
/usr/jdk118/bin/jre
/bin/jre
/usr/jdk118/bin/linux/native_threads/jre

Of the above 3 which path should be used to create symbolic link ? kindly help me out please .

Thanking You ,
Vikram. Received on Sat Nov 09 2002 - 11:18:50 CST
