What are the specs for the servers in term of CPU/RAM and also is the storage still the same?

I would recommend running 64-bit 8.1.7 on Solaris, but I do not think this is your problem, unless these are large memory boxes. With 32-bit Oracle, your SGA is limited around 4gb if I remember correctly.

We run 32-bit Oracle (8.1.7.4) on Solaris 8 64-bit and have no problems. Oh yea, I would patch to 8.1.7.4 as well.
