I agree in part. The last time I interviewed potential DBAs, all two dozen or so of them were somewhat equally qualified. Maybe their skill set didn't match my requirements 100%, but every one of them seemed more than willing to expand their knowledge (and that's the most I can expect).

Which one did I hire when technically they were all qualified? Why, of course, it was the person I thought I could get along with. It had very little to do with their skills. Skills can be learned. Not every employee has to hit the ground running.

But I was able to detect the techno-snobs in the group (who bragged too much) and eliminate them before their third sentence. We even have a few of those in this NG <g>. Received on Fri Nov 01 2002 - 10:58:41 CST
