Hi,

I have a problem with ODM and 9.2.0.2
(we use it with veritas 3.5 on solaris 8 plattform )

for direct path read 1M reads are done (64blocks a 16kb ) and the performance is very good

( with iostat I can see that the

reads actually are done in 512k pieces per disk, I would assume 1024k reads because the stripe width is 1024k , but perhaps the reads are splitted because we have more than one controller )

but for scattered read (not direct io ) the i/o is done in single blocks so we
have 64 reads instead of one, and a lot of sys cpu is consumed
( i can also see the single block reads with vxtrace, also there seems to
be some prefetching done by process id 0 )

but my primary problem is the high sys-cpu consumption, so every full scan which is not done in parallel is very slow and cpu intensive

is there anything we can improve on this ?

I would like to have a oracle newsgroup with more "high end" users who "max out" oracle and not this old version, no clue crap which is most here . Received on Fri Nov 01 2002 - 05:22:22 CST
