External C Procedures performance

I timed an external C procedure call to a do nothing C function.

It takes about 0.7 ms per call.

I timed it on a default Oracle 9i instalation on a PII-350 with 320MB RAM.

Is there anything I can tune to reduce this 0.7 ms overhead?

Thanks.
