Oracle Management Server Login Problems

Hi Experts!

I have a question regarding Oracle Enterprise Manager(OEM). When I start OEM, it ask for 2 options namely:
1)Launch Standalone
2)Login to Oracle Management Server (OMS)

I was just wondering when do we use which on....I mean when to use first option and when to use 2nd option.

Also when I try to log in to OMS and enter following information:

Administrator: system
Passowrd: manager
Management Server: MY_IP_ADDRESS_OF_DB_SERVER

---

I get following Error Message wonder why: VTK-1000 Unable to connect to OMS

Any related informatioon on above is appreciated
