John,
I'm afraid the P$ fault is well known :o) It's all to do with Java I believe - not that I like Java ....
The SI you are being asked for is the Service Access Code (SAC) you get when your company has a support contract with Oracle. If you don't have a contract, no MetaLink I'm afraid.
You'll need to get hold of patch 1507768 to do the installation, but, if you don't have a MetaLink id, you won't be able to get hold of it (unless you can get it via OTN) or direct from Oracle.
Regards,
Norman.

Conversation: 8.1.5 -> 8.1.7 Upgrade Won't Run
Subject: Re: 8.1.5 -> 8.1.7 Upgrade Won't Run
Norman,
Thanks for the quick response!
Yes indeed I'm installing on a P4. The strange part is that the installer that came with 8.1.5 worked fine. It's just that when I try to run the one with 8.1.7, it just dies. I even tried running the 8.1.5
installer and pointing it to the product.jar file on the 8.1.7 CD, but it griped about an incompatible installer version. I haven't had this much fun since I dropped a bowling ball on my foot years ago...
Although I'm a member of Oracle's OTN, I can't get registered for MetaLink. The registration screen is asking for a "Support Identifier",
and I have no clue as to what to put there. I've poured through everything on OTN, but can't find the newer installer, or anything referencing the P4 issue.
Looks like I'll have to do the 'fannying around' thing. Any pointers, or links to a site that documents the procedure?
Thanks again for your help!
John
