Many folks can't express precisely

What's an Oracle Database
 ( Physical datafiles )

What's an Oracle instance ?

 SGA and background prcesses.

There are many questions
that can be used to judge
if someone can really work as a DBA.

What are Oracle background processes ?
What do they do ? How to
shutdown and startup an Oracle instance,

These are some fundamental questions
that can be used to eliminate
someone before going into more
involved and difficult questions.

A little advanced level fundamental
quesions may be based on
backup and recovery.
What's the difference between
incomplete and complete recovery ,
examples, what to do in each
speciic case.
If someone doesn't know that the database must be in archivelog mde for hot backup, that will be very
disapointing.

Most of he questions shuould attempt to
find how fast one can make a decision
when there is a real life problem.
If the person knows where to go
to find a possible answer or guidance
( like metalink or technet etc. ), that's a strong point. one may or may not be
able to remember syntax, however, one
must be clear about the concepts.
On the other hand there are folks who
may not be able to express ideas
clearly, but knows how to fix
real life problems as fas as users
want. It's dificult to evaluate these
folks during the interview. The
interviewer must be an experienced
person to ask the right question to
identify potentially talented and expeienced candidates.
