Hi Glen! You are on the right track. It is definately a good idea to have Production and Non-Production instances using separate ORACLE_HOME's. It's even better to have them on separate boxes (!).

You can then patch one without affecting the other (at least you can on UNIX). I'm not as familiar with Oracle on Windows.
