We have a Red Hat 6.2 box running Oracle 8.1.6 and are about to upgrade it. We've decided to upgrade a few things in the process including the OS and Oracle. That is, Red Hat to 7.3 and Oracle to 8.1.7. Redhat to 7.3 and not 8.0 because is is a .0 release, and Oracle to 8.1.7 and not 9i because we do not need its features.

So, I am wondering if anyone has encoutered issues with 8.1.7 on 7.3 other then slight installation issues? Those seem to be around with their fixes. Basicaly, once 8.1.7 is running on RH 7.3 has anyone seen any issues. On 6.2 it runs smoothly.

Also, being we're getting new hard drives, the database will be a fresh install. Will a backup of 8.1.6 work on 8.1.7, or do we need to upgrade before we backup the database?
