Well, a long time ago ... before I was a DBA, I was a sysadmin ... before VMS was OpenVMS ... before VAX was Compaq or HP ... and I wrote a short C program that slept for 10 seconds, then printed a message that the system should be faster now. I called it 'fast' and when people complained that the system was slow, I told them to 'run fast' ... the more gullible did, and usually it worked. Of course, the slowness was probably caused by a temporary network storm or a disk controller temporarily slinging the drive head from one sector to another.

If Oracle was open source, I'm sure some beleagured programmer would add a sqlplus command such as you suggest. :) Received on Wed Oct 09 2002 - 10:53:28 CDT
