Clear down archive log list

Server = oracle 816
O/S = solaris 2.7 (SPARC)

I asked this in Nov 2001 but did not get a real answer.

Server in archive log mode. Backup set to delete archive logs which it does.

How do I clear the entries in the archive log list? There are thousands of the wee things, for files long gone.
