Irrelevant. The chips are Intel, the hard disks are Seagate, get the best support contract for your dollars.

What expertise do you have in your shop? If you know nothing about UNIX Linux might be a disaster. If you do I'd go with it.

My advice would be to use Solaris 2.8 or HP/UX 11 64 bit.

Make sure your disks are configured so that you have raw devices, stripe everything, and go to http://otn.oracle.com and do a search on "RAID". You may not want to use RAID 5.
