My point was NOT to abbreviate it just because we work in IT and like abbreviations. I haven't ever felt the need to refer to a control file as a cfile for example. It seems to me that spfiles and pfiles are both parameter files (albeit with differences), as for that matter are included parameter files ifile='blah'. surely all parameter file suggests is that it is a file holding parameters? If we are to avoid specifics why not just define a new term altogether.
