It would help tremendously if you'd indicate the operating system you've installed Oracle on. I can only surmise this is some sort of UNIX box; as such ORACLE_HOME is usually set in your local .profile, although sometimes I've seen it set in /etc/profile. [Of course, if you're running C-shell you'd look in the local .cshrc file. Also, some shells outside of the C-shell have differently named files to set a users 'profile': .bash_profile, for instance. You can always 'grep' files for the 'ORACLE_HOME' string.] Check these files for the ORACLE_HOME setting and adjust, if necessary, the value so that your database can be administered. You may want to think about creating a development user account, and use the currently set ORACLE_HOME for that account while resetting the ORACLE_HOME to point to the actual database home for 'oracle' and any other DBA accounts you may have created.
