Hi Howard,

as reagrds changing your name to 'et al' - hey, I read your chapter on indexes first !!!
That book is so badly titled it is unbelievable - it should be "Oracle for everyone, even you lot who think you already know it - and if you beginners think you're getting of with it, think again" - except it might need to be truncated a bit to fit on the cobver !

As for A levele - I'm afraid edukashun in the UK has gone the way of most things - too many 'right ons', do gooders & bl**dy social workers have had their finger in the pie, and it's all f*cked up now. I'd hate to be a student today. Last year, A level passes C and above were 94%. This year, they were not allowed to do the same, so they downgraded to keep the numbers steady - caused a major uproar which is continuing. (and I'm not talking about John Major & Edwina Curry here either !)

Another example of how times have changed, in Scotland I gaave up a perfectly good job as a Marine Engineer/GRP boat builder to go to college to do an SHND in computing - 5 days a week full time for two years. Today (in England anyway) it is 1 day a week day release for two years - only 20% of the work I had to do, it is a scandal. Half the kids on the streets now can't even write their own names properly.

It makes me so angry !

Cheers,
Norman.
