IMHO it just depends on Your targets for the database - and on Your pocket. MySQL is free and one of the *fastest* DBs. Oracle is one of the *safest*. Oracle and DB2 can store *Terabytes* of data - I doupt this for MySQL. PostgreSQL is coming closer to Oracle - Postgres´ P/SQL is almost identical with Oracles´ PL/SQL.
Not sure how much data space PostgreSQL can store.

This is just some overview.

Maybe some others have more insight into it.
