Ok, now I'm thinking that the ISO images I downloaded from Oracle are bad. This happens on EVERY system I try regardless of the OS. I've tried it on Win2000 Server, Win2000 Pro, WinNT 4.0, before service packs and JRE, After service packs and after JRE, ALL with the exact same performance. It happens with both Oracle 9i and 8i in each case and it happens even if I copy the CD to my hard disk and run the setup from there.

I suppose I'll try downloading again, but right now I'm just about to forget the whole thing and assume that a lot less people out there run Oracle than I previously thought, because with such a buggy installer nobody must be able to even install the darn thing let along run it. :-\
