Blindly increasing the SGA *may* increase performance, but that is a very unstructured way of tuning your system and any performance gain from this is "pure luck". You may even experience performance loss by increasing the SGA size....

To learn how to attack the problem in a structured way, read the " Oracle9i Database Performance Guide and Reference".
