In fact it is a bug: 1699226.
When using SQL*PLUS from the MS-DOS window in 8.1.7, if you use the clear screen function, the header of each following query contains 'cls'. The only workaround it is not to use the command: CLEAR SCREEN under SQL*Plus 8.1.7, or upgrade the client to 9i
