you need a listener on each machine to handle connections to the database on that machine.

The listener is the process which listens on a port for incoming Oracle connections. Similar to apache server listening on port 80 for incoming http requests.

The main difference between the number of connections allowed to win2k pro - i think the limit is 10.
Apparently this limit may apply to all kinds of connections (NT admin here) via IPCS??

The boss should be aware that the Oracle License cost will still be the same whether run on pro or server...
