You can disagree as much as you like, but acoording to Oracle's own definitions 8.1.7 *is* a maintenance release (chapter 1 Migration Guide rel. 8.1.7).

All Sybrand wanted to say (I suppose) is that *because* it's a maintenance release upgrading is quite easy. It is *not* a migration as it would have been if you come from for example rel 7.x.
